Mini Episode: Demystifying Pelvic Floor Therapy for Mothers
Teaching yoga and being in this motherhood space, I hear a lot of talk about pelvic floor therapy.
Initially I was resistant to this therapy because I’d always heard it was for women who had vaginal births. For both my sons, I had C-sections.
But a lot of pelvic floor dysfunction – especially for mothers – is not related directly to birth. Much of it derives from a weak core and weak glutes, which could be there before you even become pregnant! Pregnancy hormones and the weight we carry while pregnant compounds any dysfunction that may have been there to begin with.
I only recently started pelvic floor therapy and in only four sessions, it’s already made a REVOLUTIONARY difference in my body.
I thought I knew a lot about the pelvic floor because I’d taught yoga for so long, but turns out, there was a LOT I was unaware of.
Today my goal is to demystify pelvic floor therapy, sharing my experience and what I’ve learned, so that other women might feel better about trying it themselves.
