Mini Episode: Building Discipline and Routine a Day at a Time

Recently, while scrolling through Instagram, I found a meme that spoke to me. It went like this:

All my plans for the future involve me waking up tomorrow with a sudden sense of discipline and adherence to routine that I have never displayed even once in my life.

I thought, that’s EXACTLY how my future goals and visions feel sometimes – that the person at the end of the journey isn’t anything like the person I am now. It made me think about how self-transformation actually works.

Sometimes goals can feel very motivating, and sometimes they feel so far away from where we sit today. I often find myself on opposite ends of the spectrum.

Either I’m disappointed in myself for not doing a single thing toward that goal today, or I’m so fired up I want to wake up at 4 a.m. and change everything about my life to support this long-term vision. Neither is ideal.

Today, I want to talk about that middle zone, which is all about discipline and consistency. How do we go about setting goals? What do we need to do day-to-day to meet them? Most importantly – how do we BECOME that disciplined person fulfilling that long-term goal?
